Mikaela C. says: Sidenote: I grew up in Ft. Bragg and we live here now (countdown til PCS!!) It's horrible here.  There's nothing to do here and there are very few good areas. On post is trying to change but it's still really outdated.

Karla S. asks: We will be moving to Fort Bragg at the end of June. I'm looking for advice on apartments which areas are good and bad. thanks for the help.

Kayla T. says: Cumberland towers is awful!

Rachel J. says: Kings Cross is wonderful!

Jes R. says: I live at Sone Gate Apts and love them :) Depends on your price range. I recommend going gated community and to stay out of traffic live in spring lake or a little farther out. Living by the mall or past it he wont even come home for lunch prob but living in spring lake my soldier can sometimes come home for lunch:)

Christine E. says: STAY away from Caimbridge Arms! My husband's friend's daughter was murdered there a month ago and when my husband lived there a few years ago his house was robbed and ransacked while he was deployed and people stole and used his checks and credit cards. Please stay away from there. We lived in Stone Ridge apartments which was gated two years ago very new (so new they weren't even on the maps) and they were clean beautiful and allowed pets.

Tree H. says:  Definitely gated! Crime is rampant there. Our stuff was stolen from our house and our cars were broken into 2 times. Crazy place. Stay away from post...spring lake or anywhere else that's further out or gated.

Dun F. says: There is some pretty nice places off Cliffdale and Morganton Road. Spring Lake has a lot of crime but every place is what you make it.

Tracie T. says: I am not sure what your price range is but check out Anderson Creek Club.... It is 12 miles from base its gated and has tons of parks pools lakes and golf! It has a private pre-school and daycare onsite...there is about 600 homes in there...mostly military...its pretty awesome! :)

Emily M. asks: Does anyone recommend any good places to file taxes in the Ft. Bragg area?

Katherine L. says: Online at Turbo Taxes. They are great. They walk you through it and then even have a live professional you can chat with to help you...plus you get your refund within 2 weeks.

Rebecca S. says: www.taxslayer.com Love that site! And it's free for military.

Melissa S. says: Military One Source has a link for H&R Block for free for military.

Rosalyn R. says:  On post it's free.

Diamond R. says: Liberty Tax on Yadkin Road.

Jill E. says: H&R Block online for free.

Tanya R. says: I just did mine on post and without an appt it took a couple hrs! But was WELL worth it! They told me it would had cost about $350 to do them somewhere else! And they have 2 ppl check to original persons work so you know your stuff should be filed right! I got a NICE Refund coming and they said that it should be here by the 3rd! so its pretty quick too! :))

Jenny P. says: You can also walk into an h&r block office til mid feb and all 1040ez are free. There are 3 offices on post. One at south post one at the mini mall and one on north post.

If you are coming to Ft. Bragg...check out Anderson Creek Club. It is a fabulous gated community just 12 miles from base with over 600 homes...made up of mostly military families. There is a 4.5 star golf course and tons of parks lakes and ammenities. They even have an onsite private day care pre-school and kindergarten. There are always tons of activities for both kids and adults!! I am an army wife and an onsite agent and would love to answer any questions any of you have about the community...I will also mail you a info packet if you would like. Jessica M. asks:  Looking for information about Fort Bragg.  Moving to the area with 3 special needs children and trying to find info on the school system respite care providers and ABA tutors if anyone has info.  I know that is kind specific but I hope someone here has some info.  Thanks!

Mikaela C says:  Public school systems are pretty much across the board horrible here.  I have heard   good things about 1 or 2 schools but that's it.  There are a few good charter schools and several excellent private schools (religious and non-religious).  There is also a strong homeschooling presence if you're open to that idea as well.

Kelly W. says:  Best elementary school in the area is Eastover Central Elementary.  My kids went there and it was great.  While we were there I was told that it was the #1 school in the state.  Good luck!

Melea S. says:  I put my 2 children in the DODEA school here on base so that their IEPs would transfer.  I haven't really been here long enough to determine if that was the best move.  Everyone I talk to has wonderful things to say about the Jack Brit school district.  Unfortunately most of the houses in that area were pricey.  And with such little time to learn a new area and find a house without the ability to search by school district we ran out of time.

Kat asks: Hello! We are due for a new duty station and looking at Italy Korea or Beaufort SC. I am looking for info about housing school and job as a nurse in the hospital. Thanks!

Christine B. says: Finding a job in Korea js like finding a needle in a haystack. I have degrees and over a decade of experience making near six figures and cannot get a job here partly because of a SOFA visa only enables me to work on base and the only jobs on base are bagging groceries. Every duty station has it pros and cons but it is very hard here in Korea and I have to say I don't recommend it. I waited 7 months to be reunited with my husband and have been here 5. I don't know anything about Italy but I would recommend that just because. I lived in South Carolina and it was much nicer than Korea. Good luck with your choice!

Alison W. says: I lived on laurel bay housing at Beaufort airstation for almost 5 yrs if you have any questions about anything there I can tell you. Its a beautiful place I miss it dearly. Your not far hilton head island and bluffton area. There are plenty of jobs there no experience I found a job making $26 a hour as a dispatcher. Great restraunts good schools easy access to savannh hilton head and Charleston housing is easy to get I got a house the same day I filed out the paper work and there nice houses. Its all in all a great place to live.

Fort Bragg is my first duty station and we have been here about 3 years. The base itself is well maintained and taken care of. There are a lot of housing options due to being such a large base. The surrounding areas have their good and bad but I think every place has that. Fayetteville is a large area and has lots of businesses and restraunts. The mall is really nice. There are plenty of beaches surrounding the area only a few hours away. Myrtle beach is extremely nice and usually busy. There are lots of things to do here such as bowling museums golf go karts arcades movies and lots more. It takes a while to get use to where everything is but overall its pretty nice.

Ft Bragg NC in Fayetteville. Active Army. We have been at Bragg for almost 2 years. It is not too bad here. Ft Bragg is a huge base and took me a while to really figure out how to get around with out getting lost. I love the fact that there are 2 PX?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s and 2 Commisarys. I am not to fond of the surrounding areas of Ft Bragg like the immediate Fayetteville and Spring Lake areas. If you get a little further away from base I dont think it is so bad though as far as living goes. There is a really big mall in Fayetteville which I really love!!

Housing on installation?

I have never lived on post. But my experience being a nanny in an on post house was not good. I did not like the housing and will personally choose to never live on post.

Housing off installation?
We lived in an apartement about 5 mins down All American Freeway in Fayetteville. The apartment complex was nice and we never had any problems. We are curently looking for something in the Raeford or Hope Mills areas to get a little away from all the hustle and bustle of base life and we have been told that these are two good towns to look into.

Housing on installation?

I have not lived on post yet. We are currently waiting for housing on post. We lived off post for about 4 months. There is a lot of crime off post. People?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s homes and cars were getting broken into all the time. Hence why we are on the wait list for on-post living. We have roughly 5 months left of our 6 month wait for housing.

Housing off installation? Tell us give us tips! You will have to spend quite a bit to live in a good neighborhood off post. If you choose a cheaper place the crime will go up in those neighborhoods. Stay as far away from Bragg Blvd. as you can.

We were stationed at Ft Bragg before our current duty station and Im sure we will back since my husband is airborne. Ft Bragg is a huge installation and has everything you need on base. The commissaries and PX?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s are big so you should be able to find what you are looking for. Being at a small base now I certainly miss the size and selection they had at Bragg.

We did not live on base so I am unsure of the housing on base but I do know that there are plenty of options for off base housing. There are plenty of apartments in the area as well as rentals. And being in North Carolina housing prices are very reasonable. (To me anyway who grew up in the DC area where everything is a pretty penny)

Ft Bragg is such a big base that not everyone is seen on base for medical. We were seen off base at a civilian office so I can?¢‚Ǩ¬ùt really say how the on base care is.

Fayetteville is an Army town. Off base you will find plenty of surplus shops tattoo parlors and strip clubs! But there is certainly plenty to do in the area. Fayetteville has everything you need. There are plenty of shopping centers and a mall. There are plenty of places to eat no matter what you are in the mood for you won?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t have to travel far. Because Ft Bragg is so big its very congested. Certainly expect plenty of traffic around base during the peak hours avoid it if you can.

North Carolina is a beautiful state so there is plenty to do in the surrounding areas and if you want to travel a little. You have the coast and the beach at your disposal. You also have the mountains and Asheville North Carolina which is very nice. There is plenty of outdoors activities if thats your thing. Raleigh is about an hour from Fayetteville. They have some nice shopping in that area and its also where the major airport is. There is an airport in Fayetteville but we typically flew out of Raleigh. Smithfeild is about 45 minutes away and they have outlet shopping I frequented there. Downtown Fayetteville is nice they have novely shops and a few bars.

I am living in Fayetteville NC since 1997 and I like living here. Fort Bragg is a major United States Army installation in Cumberland and Hoke counties. Much like a large city Fort Bragg has its own schools shopping malls medical facilities housing and churches. Almost every type of recreation and athletics is available. Golf courses pools lakes bowling lanes hunting fields craft shops and much more are all around you. The Atlantic to the East and the Appalachian Mountains to the West offer a variety in scenery for the traveler. There is plenty to see and do on a short weekend or month?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s leave in North Carolina. Hunting for dove quail deer and boar is available within 25-100 miles. Good fishing is available within 10-100 miles. Snow skiing ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú North Carolina Mountains within 275 miles. Point of interest in the area: Blue Ridge Mountains and Pisgah Forest 275 miles; Lake Tillery 175 miles; Battleship ?¢‚Ǩ?ìNorth Carolina?¢‚Ǩ¬ù in Wilmington 100 miles; Old Salem in Winston-Salem 125 miles.
If you would like more detailed information http://www.fortbraggmwr.com/ is a fantastic website with a lot of answers.
